Abstract

CONTEXT: This research focused on the ten abandoned children particularly on their psychological dynamics profile, which included their history of abandonment, intellectual abilities, emotional tendencies and needs and coping mechanisms.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the psychological dynamics profile of selected abandoned children in the Bicol Region, the type of support they have received and still need, how their basic and psychological needs are being met by concerned institutions, and the additional programs that should still be provided to them.

STUDY DESIGN: This study made use of qualitative research design in particular descriptive case study method that established the psychological dynamics profile of selected abandoned children.

STUDY SETTING: Respondents came from the different provinces of Bicol Region, specifically, two from Sorsogon, one from Albay, four from the towns and municipalities of Camarines Sur which include Bato, Baao, and Ocampo, and three from Naga City.

STUDY POPULATION: Ten(10) children participated in this case study. Their ages ranged from six to 15 years old broken down as follows: five from ages 6 to 9 consisting one (1) girl and four (4) boys, three from ages 10 to 12 consisting of two (2) girls and one (1) boy, and two from ages 13 to 15 both a girl and a boy.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

This study aimed to determine the psychological dynamics profile of selected abandoned children in the Bicol Region, the type of support they have received and still need, how their basic and psychological needs are being met by concerned institutions, and the additional programs that should still be provided to them.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:

Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

a.What is psychological dynamics profile of selected abandoned children in terms of their history of abandonment, intellectual abilities, emotional tendencies and need coping mechanisms?

b.What are the types of support needed and how regularly are these received by selected abandoned children vis-a-vis their basic, intellectual and socio-emotional needs?

c.How are the basic and psychological needs of these abandoned children addressed by the institutions responsible for them.

d.What additional intervention programs should be provided to each of the selected abandoned children?
